Matt Ritchie axed, two changes – Portsmouth predicted XI v Coventry

John Mousinho could make two changes to his line-up when Portsmouth visit Coventry on Wednesday.

Last time out, Pompey suffered their 14th away defeat of the Championship season when they lost 2-1 at Millwall on Saturday.

Andre Dozzell bagged Pompey’s equaliser late on, but Millwall striker Mihailo Ivanovic had the last say as the Lions clinched victory just before added time.

Mousinho’s men now sit just four points above the relegation zone with just six games left to play.

Ritchie could be dropped amid two Portsmouth changes

Zak Swanson and Mark O’Mahony missed out on the action as Mousinho’s men travelled to Millwall on Saturday, courtesy of injury issues and could be absent once more against Coventry.

Callum Lang remains out for the rest of the season after tearing his hamstring in February.

For the defeat against Millwall, Mousinho played Terry Devlin in attacking midfield with Matt Ritchie out wide.

After the loss, the Pompey boss could look to reshuffle his pack and slot Adil Auochiche back into attacking midfield, while Harvey Blair had a positive impact at The Den after Ritchie was subbed off.

Portsmouth Predicted XI

With few options available, Nicolas Schmid will start in goal again, with Cohen Bramall, Connor Ogilvie, Regan Poole and Jordan Williams ahead of him.

Dozzell scored at The Den and will continue alongside the impressive Freddie Potts in midfield.

Three points would be vital for Pompey at Coventry

Saturday’s defeat at Millwall has left Pompey in a position where their Championship status is far from a certainty, with just six games left to play.

Portsmouth have been inconsistent lately

Not only do Mousinho’s men sit a mere four points above the relegation zone, but all three sides currently in the drop zone picked up points on Saturday and will be looking to build on that momentum.

Bottom club Plymouth earned an unlikely victory over play-off outsiders Norwich, while Luton held Leeds to a 1-1 draw and Cardiff drew with Queens Park Rangers.

With so few games left to play, the likes of Plymouth are scrapping for their Championship status, which could spell trouble for Pompey if they cannot bounce back from their defeat at Millwall.

Portsmouth’s away from has been woeful this season, but Mousinho and Co may have to earn at least a point at Coventry to keep the current bottom three sides at bay.
