Portsmouth ‘concerns rise’ after supercomputer prediction ahead of Coventry City

Portsmouth could be taking their battle against relegation down to the wire this season.

A 2-1 loss against Millwall on Saturday (5 April) leaves John Mousinho’s side sitting four points above the Championship relegation zone, meaning they are far from safe yet.

Portsmouth have a chance to immediately turn things around though with a trip to Coventry City on Wednesday (9 April).

Supercomputer spells bad news for Portsmouth

Although Coventry are a side who had been in excellent form under the management of Frank Lampard, they come into this game having lost their last two games.

Admittedly, those losses were at the hands of Sheffield United and Burnley but trying to turn around struggling form is never an easy task.

Mousinho’s side, on the other hand, have carried on their inconsistent form but showed they can pick up results with their recent win against Blackburn Rovers.

The Sky Blues are one point away from a play-off place though, so they will not be an easy side to get past meaning Pompey will have to be at the top of their game.

Unfortunately for supporters of the South Coast club, the Opta supercomputer has backed Coventry to win this game with a 55 per cent chance of victory.

Even more disheartening, the supercomputer predicts a draw at 23.2 per cent is more likely than a Pompey win at 21.8 per cent.

Portsmouth to get nervous

Football is what it is because of its unpredictable nature, meaning Portsmouth could go into this game and show everyone they’re not a side to be written off.

However, with all teams playing midweek fixtures, if surrounding sides pick up points and Mousinho’s men don’t, they could find themselves far too close for comfort at the bottom of the Championship table.

The boss has shown an attitude so far that his side is prepared to fight right until the end of the season against relegation back to League One, so they are not to be written off yet.

Portsmouth’s form is inconsistent.

That being said, this inconsistent form is not seeing them get anywhere and Pompey need to work on their ability to perform at the same levels every week.

Their win against Leeds United ahead of the international break was a perfect example of what the Fratton Park side are capable of. Now, they have to deliver.
