Portsmouth sent ‘unbelievable’ Fratton Park message as Coventry prediction made

Portsmouth face an uphill task to claim at least a point against Coventry City on Wednesday.

Pompey will be looking to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat against Millwall at The Den on Saturday (5 April) when they travel to Coventry on 9 April.

John Mousinho has the chance to add to the Sky Blues’ woes, as Frank Lampard’s side go into the game on the back of two consecutive defeats, including one against Burnley at home.

However, Portsmouth have to shake off their struggles in away games, having lost all but one of their Championship matches outside Fratton Park since December.

Portsmouth have ‘unbelievable’ week in relegation battle

All but one team below Portsmouth in the Championship table at least a point in their last game, meaning Mousinho’s side are now only four points above the relegation zone.

That is why Pompey’s upcoming games against Coventry and, particularly, Derby County at Fratton Park on Saturday (12 April) are unbelievably important for them, according to Sam Parkin.

Nevertheless, the EFL pundit is confident that Mousinho will manage to keep the South Coast club out of the danger zone.

However, that is not to say that Portsmouth will cause an upset over Coventry, with Parkin predicting a 2-1 win for Lampard’s side.

“There’s nothing that’s changing my mind, I think Portsmouth are going to be safe”, Parkin said on Benjamin Bloom’s YouTube channel (7 April).

“Derby at home, it’s an unbelievable week that they’ve got, but I have to go with my gut here, I think.

“I wasn’t overly impressed with Coventry at the weekend, albeit it was against Burnley.

“I think they’ll come out here now that the pack has changed, and Bristol City have won and leapfrogged them.

“So, the onus is on them to really attack this game, and I think they will. I’ll go for them to win 2-1.”

Mousinho to avoid relegation with Pompey

It is worth noting that this is Portsmouth’s first season in the Championship after earning promotion as League One champions last year.

Therefore, it is no surprise that Pompey have had to battle relegation this term.

Mousinho deserves credit for taking the Fratton Park outfit as high as 17th place after a terrible start to the season that saw go nine games without a win at the start.

While Portsmouth are only four points above the relegation zone, there are four other teams between them, meaning they are still in a good position to avoid the drop.
