Alan Knight charity match at Portsmouth set to provide key health initiative
Portsmouth will host their final Championship fixture of the 2024-25 season on Saturday 3 May against Hull City, by which point the Blues will hopefully be safe in the division.
Two days later, on the Early May Bank Holiday Monday (5 May), a host of Pompey legends will take to the field at Fratton Park to raise vital funds and awareness for one day beating prostate cancer.
The contest was set up in PO4 after Pompey icon and second-highest all-time appearance holder Alan Knight was sadly diagnosed with the illness last October, with a Blues legends team taking on ‘Knightsie’s’ celebrity XI.

Portsmouth offering prostate cancer testing appointments for fans
Knightsie is a name long part of the Fratton Park fabric, having represented Portsmouth in four separate decades and made over 800 appearances between the sticks. His name ranks alongside Jimmy Dickinson as Mr Pompey, if you like. He is also a club ambassador and shows his regular backing to John Mousinho‘s side.
In the wake of his devastating diagnosis, a massive effort has been put together to arrange the charity match, which is set to feature such classic players as Yakubu, Svetoslav Todorov and Brett Pitman among others – and will raise proceeds for Prostate Cancer UK, the Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal and PCaSO – a local organisation for vital equipment at Cosham’s QA Hospital.
Portsmouth have also now revealed via their official website (8 April) that in partnership with the Barry Kilby Appeal, free prostate cancer tests subsidised by the trust have been made available for fans in attendance, – which can be booked online here. A £10 donation is encouraged, helping to cover the Appeal’s costs in sourcing the kit and test results.
Knight, 63, has made it clear the primary goal of the event to follow the conclusion of the season is for as many men as possible to be tested for prostate cancer, with as many as one in eight men diagnosed at some point in their lifetimes.
Tickets for the match are available by clicking here, with advance tickets costing £10 for adults, £2 for 14-17s, and £1 for under-13s who must be accompanied by an adult. On the day, the adult fee will rise to £12 for admission – all proceeds spread across three fantastic causes. Fans will be seated in the North Lower at Fratton.

That’s why fans now can book a PSA test at Fratton Park ahead of the fixture.

Portsmouth supporters can enjoy the chance not only to do their bit for a massive worldwide effort to beat such a shattering illness, but also protect themselves and their families by getting tested and watch some past heroes in action.
Alongside the likes of Yakubu and Todorov – who were key parts of Harry Redknapp‘s Pompey outfit in the Premier League – highly-regarded EFL Blues such as Lee Brown, Michael Doyle and Gareth Evans will also be present.

Andy Awford, Vince Hilaire and Kit Symons will be in attendance in the Legends Lounge on the Bank Holiday Monday event, and in the prior day will themselves be participating in the prostate cancer blood test.
Hopefully for the Blues fans heading to Fratton Park that day, they will be riding the wave of a buoyant mood 48 hours earlier of knowing Portsmouth will also be remaining in the Championship next season, following the completion of their inaugural term back in the second tier.
