Kusini Yengi ‘finished at Portsmouth’ after John Mousinho admission

Kusini Yengi has seen his prospects diminish this season at Portsmouth, leading to questions around his future ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Yengi’s current contract at Pompey expires at the end of the season, and there seems to be no indication of a new deal being offered.

It looks like the Australian international will leave the Hampshire outfit as a free agent next summer unless something dramatic happens.

The 26-year-old centre-forward was once again missing from the squad as John Mousinho’s team lost 2-1 to Millwall at the Den on Saturday (5 April).

Mousinho targeting Championship survival at Portsmouth

Mousinho will hope to avoid Championship relegation at Fratton Park in the current campaign, but their chances of survival have taken a hit after their recent loss.

Pompey have had to deal with several fitness issues this season, especially in defence.

Callum Lang’s recent injury was also a crushing blow for the Hampshire outfit, as he’s their leading goalscorer this season.

Mousiho’s team are still 17th in the league table but are just four points above 22nd-place Cardiff City, with just six games left to go.

Yengi to pack his bags at Pompey after what Mousinho said

Coventry are up next for Pompey in the Championship on Wednesday (9 April), and the trip to West Midlands may be essential in the fight for survival.

The Fratton Park faithful will be hoping for a positive result against Frank Lampard’s team, but the Sky Blues will want the three points as they look to get a play-offs spot.

Mousinho will want to make changes to his starting lineup after losing to Millwall, but Yengi’s involvement once again looks unlikely after missing the last two fixtures.

Thomas Waddingham was named ahead of the Australian forward at the Den and came on as a substitute to help Colby Bishop as Portsmouth lost.

Yengi’s record at Pompey this season.

The English manager made an apparently damning admission about Yengi’s absence to The News (8 April) when asked about the striker’s unavailability, saying: “That was just selection. What must he do to get back? It’s the same answer as I’d give for any player, just keep working hard and, when players get the chances, just make sure they try to take it.”

If the 26-year-old centre-forward had any doubts about his future at the Hampshire outfit, it should evidently be clear by Mousinho’s comment that his time’s up.

Yengi looks finished at Fratton Park, and it would be best for him to find another club next summer.

Championship survival will surely mean a host of changes with the squad in the upcoming transfer window, and the Australia international’s departure could potentially be one of them.
