Portsmouth ‘have to fix glaring issue now’ to avoid Championship relegation

Portsmouth are set to fight until the very end in a bid to retain their Championship status.

John Mousinho’s men are sitting in 17th place in the Championship, with only four points separating them from the bottom three.

The Blues will not want to risk a return to League One when all is said and done; therefore, grinding out a few results is going to be necessary.

Portsmouth have been predicted to stay up by the Opta supercomputer, but relying on stats and percentages will not guarantee survival, and they have one alarming issue to consider.

Portsmouth’s away form is a worry

The big problem for Portsmouth is their away form, and that’s ultimately why they’re in the predicament they are in, because at Fratton Park, they’ve picked up points consistently.

Pompey have the best home record in the division since the turn of the year, but while that is impressive, it only serves to highlight how bad their away form is.

Mousinho’s men have won just twice on the road throughout this season, boasting the second-worst record in the entire division.

Their latest defeat away from Fratton Park took place last weekend in their 2-1 loss against Millwall, and if they’re not careful, it could end up relegating them.

Half of their remaining six games are away fixtures, and the possibility of taking no points from them and leaving just nine to play for in the remaining matches is a worry.

Portsmouth are back on the road in midweek

Portsmouth’s next outing is going to be away from home as they play Coventry City on Wednesday in what is sure to be a tough test.

Frank Lampard’s men are hoping to earn a place in the playoffs by the end of the season, and they will not be an easy team to beat.

However, the Blues will be boosted by the fact that Lampard is suspended for this particular game, which will make life slightly harder for the Sky Blues.
