Portsmouth relegation odds crash alarmingly after dramatic development

Portsmouth’s chances of survival were slashed last night after a dramatic development during the latest Championship fixtures.

Pompey currently sit 17th in the table following 40 games, but they edged ever so slightly closer to the relegation zone after other results on Tuesday (8 April).

Results elsewhere mean that the Blues now sit just three points above the bottom three, with the teams below them really piling on the pressure heading into the final stretch of fixtures.

It’s set to be a difficult run-in for John Mousinho’s men, especially since they have various tough games to play between now and the end of the season, where points are going to be needed.

Portsmouth aren’t being backed to survive

Pompey might have been predicted to survive by the Opta supercomputer recently, but the league table is constantly changing, and that’s impacting how the betting industry views their odds of survival.

They have now gone from 20/1 to 12/1 via Sky Bet, with their precarious situation meaning they are even less likely to survive the drop.

Portsmouth are under pressure against Coventry City

The recent results have put a lot of pressure on their upcoming game against Coventry City on Wednesday, as there’s now no real room for error or dropped points.

The Blues boast a game in hand over five of the seven teams below them, and it’s going to be imperative that they make the most of that situation.

It won’t be an easy task considering Frank Lampard’s men are pushing for a spot in the playoffs and need the points themselves, but a defeat would leave Portsmouth in a tough spot.

Sitting just three points above the relegation zone will make every single match feel like a cup final between now and the end of the season, which will be difficult to deliver on.

However, if they’re able to pull off an upset then it would provide them with some slight breathing room as a six-point cushion would be more manageable.
