‘Portsmouth must let Yengi go’ after what happened in draw v Derby County

Kusini Yengi did himself no favours as Portsmouth drew against Derby County on Saturday.

Pompey welcomed John Eustace’s side to Fratton Park on 12 April and managed to secure a hard-fought point after some Rob Atkinson madness.

The centre back scored an own goal and netted a brace for the home side, netting an equaliser in stoppage time to avoid a third consecutive defeat.

John Mousinho would have been hopeful of a big three points in PO4 but wasn’t helped by the performance of second-half substitute Yengi.

Yengi poor again for Portsmouth v Derby County

There has been a general lack of positive performances for the south coast side in the number nine position this campaign.

This was summed up by Colby Bishop missing a penalty against the Rams in what could have been a game-changing moment for the hosts.

It is fair to say that his counterpart off the bench wasn’t any more effective, as the Australian impact did very little as a substitute.

The forward was called on by Mousinho with 11 minutes plus added time to go, but he did precious little as Pompey secured a draw.

This saw him take just three touches of the ball and fail to complete a pass with a zero per cent accuracy [FotMob], which just isn’t good enough.

Unfortunately, this summed up the Aussie’s performance, which had very little by way of positivity to speak of, and that could prove to be damaging for his career at Fratton Park.

Yengi could soon leave Portsmouth

It is fair to say that a new striker will be on Mousinho’s shopping list in the summer and could represent the end of the line for Yengi.

He has seriously failed to establish himself in the second tier, regardless of any injury troubles that he might have had.

As a result, a clean break at the end of the campaign could make sense for all parties, as players similar to the quality of Josh Murphy could be sought after.

It will be interesting to see where the Australian’s future lies, but after a nothing showing against Derby, it doesn’t look likely to be on the south coast.
