Isaac Hayden sends message to Portsmouth fans after drama v Derby

Isaac Hayden has spoken out on social media after Portsmouth secured a last-gasp draw against Derby County on Saturday.

Pompey welcomed John Eustace’s side to Fratton Park on 12 April, as the points were shared after a late flurry of goals.

Rob Atkinson netted an equaliser in added time, adding to his earlier header and own goal, which ultimately gave the away side the lead on 75 minutes.

This sealed an all-important point for the home side as Hayden made a rare start under John Mousinho as the second-tier season heads towards its end date.

Hayden sends message after draw v Derby County

It is fair to say that there were some surprising inclusions in the starting 11 that lined up against the Rams, given the importance of the clash.

This saw Christian Saydee come in from the off but failed to have a positive impact before being hooked in the second half.

Similarly, Hayden’s inclusion did catch many fans off guard as the Jamaica international made his first start since 1 March in a Pompey shirt.

The 30-year-old featured at the base of midfield and had a positive defensive impact despite conceding two on the day.

Ultimately, the Newcastle loanee had a positive impact as a point was secured to help boost the PO4 outfit towards safety in the Championship.

This wasn’t wasted on the midfielder as he took to his Instagram story (12 April) to say: “Vital point, Thanks for your support.”

Portsmouth can rely on Hayden

There is no doubt that the Arsenal academy product has excellent experience and quality, which can make him a useful asset in the second tier.

This was shown against Derby as both sides were fighting for their lives to remain in the division after earning promotion from League One.

Colby Bishop missed a penalty, but there were positive flashes throughout the side, which could reflect well in the final games of the season.

It will be interesting to see if Hayden is to be given more of a chance now or if his loan spell will end with a lack of intrigue.
