Portsmouth new relegation prediction made by supercomputer after Derby draw

Portsmouth face a nervous end to the Championship season, as they are still well within relegation contention.

Pompey are in the Championship for the first time in 12 years, but they are aiming to stay there for next season.

Although John Mousinho’s side were seemingly cruising to safety a few weeks ago, they have suffered a huge dip in form, which has now dragged them back into the relegation battle.

Portsmouth drew 2-2 with Derby County in dramatic circumstances, which meant that they could not pull away from the chasing pack, and their relegation chances have now been revealed.

Supercomputer reveals Portsmouth relegation chances

Portsmouth’s clash with Derby was a crucial one, as the Rams started the day three points behind Pompey, but their 2-2 draw kept both sides apart in the table, courtesy of Rob Atkinson’s brace.

Derby have been on a strong run of form under John Eustace, and are now one place and one point above the drop zone.

Had Pompey won, Mousinho’s team would have been six points clear of the relegation zone, but they are just four away with four games remaining.

Opta’s supercomputer has now predicted that Portsmouth have a 5.24 per cent chance of relegation, and that they are likely to finish in 19th place.

This is a drop from the predicted 17th-place finish given before the game, highlighting the impact of the draw against Derby.

Portsmouth need one win to alleviate relegation fears

Portsmouth have four games remaining this season, and if they can win one of the three before the final day, it will give them a massive boost in the relegation battle.

Pompey are set to face Norwich, Watford, Sheffield Wednesday and Hull in their final four games, with the first three sides all above them in the table.

The final game against Hull could be massive, with the Tigers just two points behind Portsmouth, and if Pompey are still within touching distance of the relegation zone, they could be in trouble.

If Portsmouth can put some distance between themselves and Cardiff in one of the upcoming three games, they can ensure that there is still a four-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone heading into the final day.
