Portsmouth ‘to drop’ Colby Bishop v Norwich as dismal stats emerge

Portsmouth might undergo a major change to their starting lineup when they face Norwich on Friday.

Pompey were held to a 2-2 draw against Derby County on Saturday (12 April) in what was a frantic final 20 minutes at Fratton Park.

Jerry Yates put the visitors ahead in the 70th minute, only for Rob Atkinson to equalise one minute later as the Blues got straight back into the game.

That was the start of a mad period for Atkinson, though, as he scored an own goal before going on to equalise again for Pompey in the 91st minute.

John Mousinho’s men now have a four-point gap over the bottom three, but they must continue pushing forward and not rely upon that.

Portsmouth might drop Colby Bishop

Mousinho will want to guarantee that his team gains as many points between now and the end of the season, and some bold calls might be needed to make that happen.

That could include dropping Bishop, who has been a key member of the squad throughout the season, having made 28 appearances in the league.

Bishop struggled massively against Derby at the weekend, as he lost more duels than anybody on the day, with a whopping 18.

The striker missed a penalty and another good chance within the game, while he only managed one shot on target.

Bishop managed to have seven touches in the opposing box, and just 33 touches generally throughout the game as Pompey struggled to get him involved.

Mousinho must make a big call

Dropping Bishop would be a big call to make, but doing so might be the switch-up that is needed to help Pompey gain a positive result.

Kusini Yengi is another option that could be considered in the upcoming game, if Mousinho wants to take a gamble, with Callum Lang pushing to return, however unlikely that is.

All that matters now is survival, everyone knows that.
