Portsmouth injury news: Ibane Bowat return update emerges
Portsmouth defender Ibane Bowat has some way to go before being introduced to full first-team training, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that Pompey’s aim appears to be having the summer signing healthy for the pre-season campaign after the summer break.
The 22-year-old did not play a single game this season, courtesy of a patellar tendon rupture, which is a complete tear of the tendon connecting the kneecap, aka patella, to the tibia (shinbone).
Bowat should be back for Pompey’s first game next season
Missing the entire season certainly was a huge blow for Bowat, especially after not even playing a single game.
The rehab undoubtedly would’ve been a strenuous one, but it appears to be in its final stages.
That’s because he appears to be in contention to return from the first game week of the 2025/26 season.
Team | Played | Wins | Draws | Losses | Goals | Conceded | Points | Position |
Portsmouth | 42 | 12 | 10 | 20 | 50 | 66 | 46 | 19th |
Discussing his situation exclusively with Portsmouth News, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “He is out for the season with a serious knee injury and the aim looks to be having him healthy for pre-season after the summer.
“The protocol will be gradually introducing him into team training, which is still some way to go, and then pre-season matches to get him up to speed before the intensity of actual first team matches next season.
“He should be ready to play the full 90 minutes of the first game of next season if there are no setbacks with his rehab.”

Bowat will be an important inclusion for Portsmouth next season
Bowat will bring athleticism, composure and defensive solidity to Portsmouth next season.
After recovering from a patellar tendon rupture, the former Fulham prospect is expected to return fully fit for pre-season.
His 31 appearances for TSV Hartberg in the Austrian Bundesliga showcased his ability to read the game and contribute to build-up play with his ball-playing skills.
Standing at 6 ft 2 in tall, Bowat’s physical presence will bolster Pompey’s backline, offering versatility at left centre-back.
His Scotland Under-21 experience adds maturity, making him a long-term asset for the Fratton Park outfit’s Championship ambitions.
