Portsmouth relegation odds increase again after events in past 48 hours

Portsmouth’s odds of being relegated from the Championship this season were increased after the events of the past 48 hours.

The second tier of English football continues to be one of the most unpredictable and dramatic, with various results from this past weekend being surprising.

Portsmouth picked up a point in a thrilling 2-2 draw against Derby County, which was a result that didn’t pull either team away from the relegation battle.

Stoke City were able to overtake the Blues in the table after they defeated Cardiff City, while bottom of the league Plymouth Argyle pulled off a huge shock by beating Sheffield United.

The relegation battle was blown open due to the dramatic results, proving that nothing is decided yet in the race for survival in the division.

Portsmouth’s odds of survival have increased

The Blues are currently 19th in the table after 42 games, and they sit four points above the relegation zone at the moment.

Portsmouth have four games left this season in a bid to secure their safety, and given the drama of the past weekend, it’s likely that every single point will matter.

John Mousinho’s men are now 10/1 to avoid relegation according to Sky Bet, with Pompey still needing to do a lot of work to stay up. That is a slight increase from prior to the weekend’s action.

Portsmouth will be back in action on Friday (18 April) when they travel to play Norwich City in a match they will be desperate to take something from.

Fratton Park will be crucial for Portsmouth’s survival

Portsmouth have four games left, with two at home and the others on the road, which places a lot of pressure on those games at Fratton Park.

Pompey have one of the strongest home forms in the division since the turn of the year, and that’s something that could be decisive in terms of them staying up.

That’s because in contrast, Portsmouth’s away form has been terrible this season, with Mousinho’s men winning just twice on the road.

Pompey fans will find it hard to rely on the two away games they have left to pick up the points that they need this season, so Fratton Park’s atmosphere will likely be heightened.
