Williams ‘to consider Portsmouth future’ after what John Mousinho’s done
Jordan Williams has had a tough first 12 months at Fratton Park since joining Portsmouth last summer.
There was a lot of excitement surrounding Williams joining Pompey during the summer due to the qualities he has showcased throughout his career until this point.
However, the Huddersfield Town academy graduate has had a campaign plagued by injuries, which have stopped him from featuring regularly.
Williams has only played 18 times in the Championship this season, missing 19 games via injury, stopping him from having the career people anticipated.
The right-back has dealt with hip and hamstring issues throughout the season, but he has managed to gain full fitness for the all-important run-in as Pompey try to avoid relegation.

Mousinho’s decision could be costly
Williams is someone who can be used in midfield or defence, which is why there was a lot of excitement about his return to fitness when John Mousinho confirmed it.
However, he hasn’t played a full 90 minutes since that point, and after only being kept on for 55 minutes against Coventry City, he was then dropped completely against Derby County.
Mousinho opted to start Zak Swanson ahead of Williams in that match, putting his faith in the 24-year-old ahead of Williams after being rushed back from injury.

It’s a situation that will have Williams questioning his future at Fratton Park, and whether or not he is going to commit his long-term future to the Blues.
Williams is at the stage of his career where he now needs to be playing regularly to get the most out of himself as he’s in his peak years, and being a squad player isn’t something he will be interested in.
The full-back is under contract at Pompey until 2027, which does put the club in a strong negotiating position if they were to sell him, or if they decide to keep him in the long term.

Portsmouth might need Williams’ experience
Portsmouth only have four games left this season, and with only four points between themselves and the relegation zone, Mousinho will need all the help he can get.
Williams could play a big role in that as his experience and his qualities both defensively and in an attacking sense might be what is needed moving forward.
However, it remains to be seen whether Mousinho opts to bring Williams back into the starting lineup moving forward, or if he’s lost his spot permanently – in which case, he may see his future elsewhere.
