Portsmouth statement raises concern – ‘Points deduction incoming’
Portsmouth are currently fighting the threat of relegation from the EFL Championship, and it could be a nervy few weeks ahead.
John Mousinho’s side are winless in their last three games, and there is now a four-point gap between Pompey and the relegation zone.
Portsmouth drew 2-2 with Derby County in their last game, a result which keeps Pompey in the battle when a win could have taken them closer to safety.
Rob Atkinson scored a brace including a late equaliser to save the day for Portsmouth, but one incident has now been slammed since.

Portsmouth issue statement following Derby draw
Portsmouth have now issued a statement following an incident in the 2-2 draw with Derby at Fratton Park, in which objects were thrown at an assistant referee.
It is alleged that the objects were thrown in the 74th minute, and Pompey have now threatened sanctions for any culprits.
Opponent | Result |
Blackburn (H) | 1-0 W |
Millwall (A) | 2-1 L |
Coventry (A) | 1-0 L |
Derby (H) | 2-2 D |
“Objects thrown on to the pitch by any spectator, the use of discriminatory language, as well as entering the field of play, all constitute a criminal offence. Any spectator(s) identified as having thrown the objects will be subject to a significant club sanction, as well as a potential criminal investigation,” the statement reads.
Some have taken to X to criticise the Portsmouth fans involved, and one has even called for a points deduction.
A points deduction is unlikely at this stage, but if Pompey were to be punished as a collective, it would be damaging for their survival hopes.

Portsmouth close to relegation zone
Portsmouth were in a strong position to secure their Championship safety weeks ago, but recent results have brought them closer to the relegation zone.
Just one win in their last three games would have seen Pompey move at least six points clear with four games remaining, which would have almost certainly seen them stay up.
Portsmouth are set to face Sheffield Wednesday in their final away game of the season, in a match which could either secure their safety or set up a nervous finale at Fratton Park against Hull City.
