Portsmouth ‘relegation fears not over yet’ amid crazy Neil Warnock news
Portsmouth could be fearing for the worst in their relegation battle with Neil Warnock potentially set to return to management.
Pompey are still looking over their shoulder in the Championship as they sit just four points clear of the bottom three.
There are just four games remaining of the campaign, but survival is still far from guaranteed for John Mousinho after three games without a win.
The English head coach’s fears may have now taken a step up with Warnock potentially set to make his presence felt in the second tier.

Warnock could hamper Portsmouth relegation battle
Although the current boss at Fratton Park has done so much good since taking over in January 2023, he does have a lack of experience as a head coach.
This hasn’t had a negative impact on his side throughout the majority of the campaign, but it could take a toll as the relegation fight heats up.
Position | Club | Games played | Goal difference | Points |
19. | Portsmouth | 42 | -16 | 46 |
20. | Hull City | 41 | -9 | 44 |
21. | Derby County | 42 | -10 | 43 |
22. | Cardiff City | 42 | -21 | 42 |
On the complete flip side of this is Warnock, who has been an expert of keeping sides up and taking struggling sides to promotion in the Championship.
His return to the division could represent a huge boost for any side that brings him in, to take advantage of his pedigree.
With that being said, Graeme Bailey has reported on 16 April that Cardiff City are seriously considering a move for their former manager before the end of the season.
The journalist has suggested that talks have taken place with the Welsh outfit, who have been left “spooked” after defeat against Stoke City.
If the Bluebirds were to take up the chance to bring the 76-year-old back after six years away, their survival hopes could take a big step forward.

Mousinho to look over shoulder if Warnock comes in
There is no doubt that the former Sheffield United and Crystal Palace boss has had multiple positive spells in his career, arguably the best coming in his spell with Cardiff.
Warnock managed to take the Welsh outfit away from relegation and to the Premier League in just three years in an achievement which can’t be understated.
The Bluebirds hierarchy may have grand designs of this happening again, which could spell bad news for Mousinho and his players in the coming weeks.
The former Oxford United will now need to get the best out of his key players, like Josh Murphy, to make sure Warnock gets no change out of Pompey.
The PO4 club took one step closer to safety with a Rob Atkinson-inspired point against Derby County, but will be hoping to confirm their survival before Warnock has his say.
