Portsmouth’s relegation rivals charged by FA after incident
Portsmouth’s battle for Championship survival has not been without its moments of controversy.
A crowd incident in Pompey’s 2-2 draw with Derby on Saturday has been subject to a Hampshire Police investigation.
John Mousinho’s men were previously fined £50,000 by the FA after fans invaded the pitch to celebrate their promotion back to the Championship last term.
Portsmouth face Norwich at Carrow Road on Good Friday and will be looking for a victory which will bolster their chances of beating the drop.

Plymouth Argyle hit by FA charge after Sheffield United incident
Miron Muslic’s Plymouth currently sit bottom of the Championship and six points behind 19th-place Portsmouth despite Saturday’s 2-1 victory over promotion hopefuls Sheffield United.
As reported by BBC Sport [17 April], both Argyle and the Blades have been charged with misconduct by the FA after players and coaching staff from both sides clashed.
Championship table (19th-24th) | Games played | Goal difference | Points |
19 Portsmouth | 42 | -16 | 46 |
20 Hull | 42 | -9 | 45 |
21 Derby | 42 | -10 | 43 |
22 Cardiff | 42 | -21 | 42 |
23 Luton | 42 | -26 | 40 |
24 Plymouth | 42 | -38 | 40 |
Unlike Pompey, Muslic’s side currently look unlikely to rescue their Championship status, as they sit three points adrift of safety with just four games remaining.

Portsmouth face an ideal run-in amid survival bid
Every point counts for Portsmouth as they look to steer themselves clear of the relegation zone and further cement their Championship status.
But as Pompey battle to avoid an unwanted return to League One, the fixture list has handed Mousinho and Co an ideal run of games in their last four.
Over Easter weekend, the Fratton Park club take on both Norwich and Watford, who have each seen their playoff credentials slip away in recent weeks.
Mousinho’s men then face Sheffield Wednesday on 26 April, while the Owls are languishing in mid-table amid a backdrop of ownership issues.
Then, on the last day of the season, on 3 May, Portsmouth host fellow relegation rivals Hull, and should fancy their chances of beating a weak Tigers side on home soil.
An away win over Norwich on Friday would be particularly welcome for Pompey, who have currently managed just two wins on their travels in the Championship this term.
