Josh Murphy ‘can silence’ Hoff Thorup in Portsmouth v Norwich after what he said

Portsmouth look to bolster their efforts in avoiding relegation back to League One with a trip to Norwich City on Good Friday.

John Mousinho’s men come into the game sitting 19th in the table, four points clear of the drop zone.

Meanwhile, the Canaries sit 13th in the table, with little to play for and without a win in three games, showing Portsmouth the opportunity in front of them.

Portsmouth have not had the easiest of seasons after gaining promotion to the Championship last term.

With four games left to go in the campaign, Pompey know that a couple of victories could be the pull they need away from the relegation zone.

The South Coast side have shown impressive form at Fratton Park this season and have two home games left but if they could gain points at Carrow Road, they would be in an even stronger position.

It’s not the worst time to face the Canaries, given their recent form and mid-table position, and star man Josh Murphy may feel he has something to prove visiting his former side.

In a disappointing season, Murphy has been a standout performer for Pompey, and Norwich boss Johannes Hoff Thorup says his side are ready to take him on.

Speaking before the game, he said: “He’s got a great shot from distance, and we have to be aware that he can go both ways.

“He’s just a threat for them, so we’re prepared, we have prepared our players exactly for that, but they have more players.”

Murphy can silence Thorup and Norwich

Naturally, the opposition are going to be focusing on the likes of Murphy ahead of a game against Portsmouth, knowing that he is going to be a danger.

However, Portsmouth are likely to come into this game with much more fire in their bellies in comparison with their opponents, as there is so much riding on each result now.

The Canaries know the quality of Muprhy and they have seen it first-hand but that does not mean they are going to be able to stop him in his tracks.

It is up to Murphy to use this to his motivation and show his former club that no amount of preparation on the training field is enough to limit what he can do on the pitch.

The winger can go both ways, but his threat on the ball and his powerful striker offer much more for the Canaries to be wary of and, if at his best today, he could certainly push his side further away from the threat of a drop back to League One.
