Portsmouth injury news: Jacob Farrell update emerges

Portsmouth defender Jacob Farrell will currently be following his detailed rehabilitation plan, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that the Pompey medical staff will constantly be monitoring the increases in his training intensity.

The 22-year-old has just made one league appearance all season for the Championship outfit.

Farrell likely to return to full training at the start of pre-season

Since transferring from Central Coast Mariners, the left-back has played just once.

After his debut against Sheffield United in September, Farrell sustained a knee injury in training.

A setback in January required surgery, ruling the Australian out for the season.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Portsmouth NewsDr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “The player will go through the appropriate protocols based on what the injury specifics were and have a detailed rehabilitation plan and ongoing strength and conditioning plan that builds up towards individual training, group training and finally matches.

The key is being methodical and gradual while constantly monitoring how the player is responding to increases in intensity.

It’s all about day by day but he should have no problem being back in full training at the start of pre-season.

Portsmouth will need to be extremely careful about how they handle Farrell’s return

A strong pre-season is crucial for Jacob Farrell as it offers a vital opportunity to regain match fitness and confidence after a season marred by a knee injury and surgery.

The 22-year-old left-back can use pre-season to integrate with the squad, hone his defensive skills and adapt to the Championship’s physical demands.

His methodical rehabilitation, guided by a detailed plan, ensures a gradual return to peak condition. Farrell’s pace, tackling and attacking flair from the left could bolster Pompey’s backline, providing balance and versatility.

A successful pre-season could position him as a key starter, enhancing Portsmouth’s defensive stability and attacking options next season.
