Portsmouth star only behind Mohamed Salah in remarkable record this season
Portsmouth are on the verge of securing Championship safety following their incredible 5-3 victory away at Norwich City.
Colby Bishop scored a perfect hat-trick as Portsmouth recorded one of their best victories of the season at Carrow Road.
The result has put Norwich manager Johannes Hoff Thorup under huge pressure, but for Portsmouth, it was a game which all but confirms their place in the Championship for a second consecutive season.
There is plenty of reason for John Mousinho to be positive, and one star player has now given him further cause for happiness.

Josh Murphy tops Championship for assists
Portsmouth winger Josh Murphy has been outstanding this season, even though his performance away at Norwich was overshadowed by Bishop.
Murphy recorded two assists against the Canaries in an excellent display, and this now means he tops the Championship in this metric.
The 30-year-old has recorded 13 assists in 39 Championship games this season, and this places him near the top of the English football pyramid.
Stat | Josh Murphy |
Appearances | 39 |
Goals | 7 |
Assists | 13 |
In the top two divisions of English football, only Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has more assists than Murphy’s 13, with 18 to the Egyptian’s name.
Salah has been one of the best wingers in the world with Liverpool set to win the Premier League, but Murphy and his sibling are closer than anyone to his assist total.
The Murphy brothers are thriving
Murphy’s twin brother, Jacob, currently plays for Newcastle and is also enjoying what might be the best spell of his career.
Jacob Murphy is on 11 assists in the Premier League this season, and is also second only to Salah in this metric in the top division.
The Murphy twins previously played together at Norwich City, but both moved around the EFL a lot before Jacob settled at Newcastle.
Josh has now found his feet at Portsmouth and is thriving as one of the best wingers in the Championship, and one of the best creators around.
Murphy’s contract at Pompey runs until 2027, and Mousinho will hope that he can stay beyond the end of this season with Portsmouth aiming to push further up the table next season.
