Kusini Yengi has ‘final Portsmouth chance’ after latest update

Portsmouth are potentially one day away from securing a second consecutive season of football in the Championship.

It’s been a difficult but successful campaign for Portsmouth, who have been inconsistent at times, failing to pull themselves too far away from the drop zone.

A massive 5-3 victory against Norwich City on Good Friday boosted John Mousinho’s men, though, and now they sit six points clear of the bottom three.

Portsmouth served blow ahead of Watford clash

After a massive victory away at Norwich, Portsmouth should be feeling fairly confident heading back to Fratton Park, where they have a strong record this season.

However, Mousinho has been delivered a fitness blow ahead of the game, adding yet another name to the injury worries the boss has had this term.

Colby Bishop picked up a knock to his knee against the Canaries and was substituted off in the 75th minute at Carrow Road.

The striker has not been ruled out of the clash against Watford but the boss admitted he would have to wait and see how he is before making a call.

After Bishop scored a hat-trick in the massive win against Norwich, to have him missing from the game could leave a big hole in Pompey’s side, especially when they will be trying to run off some of the momentum.

As a result, Kusini Yengi would potentially have to take the striker’s position in the team, having replaced Bishop on Friday.

Yengi has final chance to save Portsmouth future

It has not been the easiest of seasons for Yengi, who has struggled with injury that has limited his playing time to just 13 league appearances.

However, when he has played, he has not reached the required levels to suggest he would succeed in the Championship, having registered no goals or assists.

When the summer transfer window arrives, Mousinho will no doubt be keen to add options to his attacking force and, naturally, Yengi will be lower down the pecking order than Bishop when it comes to who would be going the other way.

The 26-year-old sees his contract at Fratton Park expire at the end of the current campaign, although Portsmouth do hold the option to extend it for a further year.

With that in mind, the striker has to see this as his last chance to prove himself and show Mousinho and Portsmouth why he is worthy of being retained.
