Portsmouth boss Mousinho rightly heralded after announcement today

John Mousinho has been working hard at Fratton Park this term to secure a second consecutive season of Championship football for Portsmouth.

The Blues’ form has been inconsistent at times, but Pompey now sit six points above the relegation zone, knowing one more win could get them over the line.

Their hopes were boosted after a massive 5-3 win away at Norwich City on Good Friday, but attention will now have turned to Watford, who visit Fratton Park on Monday (21 April).

Mousinho handed plaudits after Norwich win

As Portsmouth now look ahead to the game against Watford, they will surely be full of confidence after the win against Norwich.

Colby Bishop scored a hat-trick, although after picking up a knock, supporters will be crossing their fingers that he is fit enough to play.

Matt Ritchie and Regan Poole also got their names on the scoresheet.

Given how impressive Portsmouth’s form at Fratton Park has been this season, the boss will no doubt be hoping that the momentum from Carrow Road can carry through to the Watford clash.

The Football League Paper has certainly helped to build on that momentum even further, too, after they announced via X (20 April) that Mousinho was named as Manager of the Day after Friday’s Championship action.

Pompey dominated with Bishop, Ritchie and Josh Murphy also noted for their contributions.

Mousinho to succeed with Portsmouth

Mousinho is well deserving of his praise for Portsmouth’s win away from home and the fact that three members of his squad were in the side speaks volumes.

The boss will be pleased that Pompey gained all three points, but won’t be thinking too much about the praise coming his way until the South Coast outfit have secured their Championship safety.

Given how big some of the budgets in the second tier are, Mousinho and his Pompey squad have done an excellent job this term and if they do stay up, there is something to build on.

Mousinho should be given plenty of backing from those above him in the summer transfer window to put him and the squad in a better place to compete next term, rather than being dragged too close to the bottom again.

Fratton Park is a fortress and if Pompey can put in another impressive performance on Monday, Mousinho could well see himself at the top of the list of managers once again.
