Portsmouth v Watford: Shocking prediction made as Championship survival on line

Portsmouth face Watford in the Championship on Monday in what could be huge in Fratton Park’s hopes of survival.

Pompey will host Tom Cleverley’s side on 21 April, as the home fans will want three points to all but confirm their safety from relegation this season.

Pompey beat Norwich City 5-3 at Carrow Road in their previous fixture, calming the nerves amongst the Hampshire outfit’s supporters.

John Mousinho will hope for a similar performance at Fratton Park against the Hornets and have been predicted to pull off a shocking result.

Watford to concede four goals v Portsmouth

Pompey could potentially score four goals against Watford at home on Monday, Benjamin Bloom says.

Sam Parkin has also given the Hampshire outfit the edge in the tie, albeit with a slight one-goal margin.

Bloom, on the other hand, feels Mousinho’s team may score multiple goals at Fratton Park against Cleverley’s team, who have conceded six goals in their last five league matches.

Speaking on Bloom’s YouTube channel, Parkin said: “I think you have to back them here. Obviously, tiptoeing towards safety. I fancy them here against Watford. I’ll go for Pompey 2-1.”

Bloom added: “Can you imagine if it was Pompey 4-1 Watford. It’d be a hell of a day down at Fratton Park, wouldn’t it? Let’s throw it in there. Let’s go for a 4-1.”

Mousinho to rejoice at Fratton Park success

It’d be surprising to see Pompey score four goals without Colby Bishop against Watford, with the centre-forward a doubt for the fixture.

The English striker was on fire for the Hampshire outfit at Carrow Road, scoring a hat-trick.

Mousinho is also without Callum Lang due to his fitness issues and will need to rely on someone else to score goals against the Hornets.

Portsmouth need to be calm in the last three fixtures of the season and have everything in their hand as they look to survive the drop.

Pompey are six points ahead of 22nd-place Luton Town and have a significantly better goal difference, giving them a massive boost in the relegation battle.

The Fratton Park faithful will rightly be confident about securing their place in the Championship for next season, and a crucial win will arguably quell all doubts.

Watford don’t have much left to play for this season, allowing Mousinho’s team to make a statement at home.

It’d be a significant achievement for Pompey if they were able to avoid relegation back to League One just a year after promotion.
