‘Mousinho to be doomed without Freddie Potts at Portsmouth’ after Watford showing

Freddie Potts has been simply superb at Portsmouth this season and continued that form against Watford on Monday.

Pompey moved even further clear of the relegation places on 21 April with a 1-0 victory against Tom Cleverley’s side at Fratton Park.

A first-half strike from Colby Bishop proved to be the difference as Kevin Keben picked up a red card for the visitors to make things easier for John Mousinho’s men.

In a positive performance to take all three points on the south coast, it was Potts who once again caught the eye with just weeks remaining of his loan spell.

Potts shines for Portsmouth once again v Watford

There is no doubt that the PO4 side pulled off a superb piece of business by bringing in the 21-year-old on a temporary basis for the season.

The West Ham academy talent has been superb in the middle of the park for Pompey and showcased his class once again against Watford.

This saw the Englishman feature throughout another 90 minutes where he was able to clock up 65 touches while maintaining a 100 per cent dribble completion rate [FotMob].

Potts also created the most chances on the pitch with three, utilising his 86 per cent pass accuracy to hugely aid his teammates.

This was only aided by his defensive showing also being superb, as he also chipped in with seven defensive actions while also winning three duels.

This showing in the midfield for Pompey certainly had a telling impact and will represent a huge miss when he departs in the summer.

Mousinho to be lost without Potts at Portsmouth

The danger of a loan is that the better they perform, the more likely they are to move on to pastures new.

This looks destined to be the case of Mousinho with Potts, who has been excellent throughout his spell since signing in the summer.

It is fair to say that West Ham have recognised this and have rewarded the young midfielder with a new deal at the London Stadium.

This could see him earn first-team minutes next campaign under Graham Potter, who is famed for his use of young talent.

Without the 21-year-old, Mousinho will be forced to delve into the transfer market as he also looks set to lose another loanee in Isaac Hayden.

It will certainly be interesting to see who comes in to replace Potts and how his exit will impact Pompey moving into another season of Championship action.
