Portsmouth injury news: Paddy Lane return update emerges

Portsmouth winger Paddy Lane could return to individual training post his knee injury before the end of the season, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert states that it will only be contingent on how he’s responding to the rehab, as he has been ruled out for the rest of the season, so a return to full training is not on the cards.

Back in January, Mousinho claimed that he’s likely to miss the remaining games of the 2024-25 season.

Lane will be following specific protocols in his post-surgery rehab

As the 24-year-old underwent surgery in January, he will be in the latter stages of his rehab as he will want to eventually make his first-team return.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Portsmouth NewsDr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “Lane had a significant knee injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season.

“We know he had surgery, so there will be specific protocols in place following that surgery, which eventually lead to the rehabilitation and return to training and matches plan.

The focus has to be day by day.

While he may be considered for individual training before the end of the season, it will all be on how he’s been responding in recent weeks.

Portsmouth will want more from Lane next season

Pompey have sorely missed Lane’s dynamism and goal-scoring threat in the 2024-25 Championship season, as his 22 appearances yielded just one goal before his knee injury.

Lane, who joined from Fleetwood in 2023, was pivotal in their League One promotion, scoring 12 goals in 42 games with his pace and versatility across midfield.

His ability to stretch defences and contribute offensively, as seen in his 4-0 Swansea rout, has been absent, leaving Mousinho to field alternatives.

Next season, a fully recovered Lane can add flair, directness and crucial goals, potentially elevating Portsmouth’s attack.

At 24, his youth and hunger could help them push for mid-table stability and perhaps challenge for a top-flight finish.
