Christian Saydee immediately mocks Kwadwo Baah as Portsmouth beat Watford

Portsmouth can plan for the next year in the Championship, having consolidated safety with a 1-0 win over Watford at Fratton Park.

A delightful Easter weekend saw Pompey take maximum points to stave off the threat of relegation with two games to spare, mathematically safe now due to Derby and Hull City facing each other next week.

Colby Bishop continued his fine form with the decisive goal, coupled with a celebration which has become a staple between Pompey and Watford this season on both sides.

Christian Saydee mocks Watford man after Bishop celebration

Portsmouth remembered one of their many frustrating away defeats this season when they lost 2-1 at Watford on Boxing Day.

The Blues were dealt a horrific hand on the day, with key decisions going against them and the Hornets winning the contest at Vicarage Road late on.

Upon the final whistle, Watford’s Kwadwo Baah took the opportunity to mock the Pompey fans and players with a ‘take the L’ dance, synonymous with popular video game Fortnite.

After Bishop mocked Baah’s celebration by copying it following his goal, Saydee took it one step further at full-time by performing the full dance himself, much to the amusement of the Fratton Park crowd and several of his teammates.

Saydee was the first substitute brought on by John Mousinho at half-time of the clash, replacing Adil Aouchiche and helping see out the victory.

Baah did not feature in Monday’s game due to injury, having exchanged various messages with Portsmouth fans on social media over recent months following the Christmas-time incident.

Portsmouth can plan for next season

Portsmouth can now enjoy a summer break, which can be filled with satisfaction, having struggled in an uphill battle to ensure their spot in the Championship next season.

Between the injuries, the away form and the inconsistency, Pompey looked in trouble at times, but the belief was always there that there would be enough in the tank.

Michael Eisner declared back in November that there would be no way the Blues would get relegated this season, despite occupying the drop zone at the time.

The hope now is that the owner’s investment can stretch further across the playing side, with recruitment needed to continue to progress.

Pompey will look to end the season with a flourish against Sheffield Wednesday this Saturday (26 April), before Hull City – still fighting for their lives – visit Fratton Park on the final day (3 May).
