Mousinho ‘confirms Portsmouth exit decision’ as fresh comments emerge

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho has seemingly already made a decision regarding his future at the club.

Mousinho has done a remarkable job once again at Fratton Park this season, guiding the Blues to safety despite having the smallest budget in the division.

He has been able to get the best out of the squad available to him, and that has led to Pompey fans being excited about the future.

Supporters have urged Eric Eisner to financially back Mousinho in the summer transfer window as they don’t want him to leave, but that doesn’t mean he will stick around.

Mousinho’s impressive work throughout his tenure at the south coast club have caught the eye of other teams, with rumours of interest from West Brom emerging.

Portsmouth have identified a replacement

Speculation surrounding Mousinho’s future have led to fans being concerned that he will end up leaving the club, and reports of Pompey identifying a potential replacement won’t have helped that.

The Blues are keeping tabs on the work of Alan Sheehan at Swansea right now after he has impressed during his work this season.

The young manager is only in charge on an interim basis, and the fact that he still hasn’t signed a full-time deal has alerted Portsmouth and several other teams to the possibility of hiring him.

Should Mousinho end up parting ways with the Blues, then he is likely to be considered a prime candidate to replace him, but Portsmouth supporters will be hoping it doesn’t come to that.

John Mousinho has revealed his future plans

Even though there are still two games left this season, Portsmouth are already looking ahead to the 2025-26 campaign, and what that could look like for the club.

During his latest pre-match press conference, Mousinho spoke about what the summer transfer window might look like for the Blues, with his comments being interesting for fans.

He said: “We always want to be smart and we don’t want to waste money. We want to get to a position where we always have value in the squad.

“That might have been easier if we’d stayed in League One for a few years, but that’s not what we wanted to do so we got into the Championship.

“So then we had a mix of building value in the squad and bringing in players for the short term.

“But there is that alignment there in terms of what we’re trying to achieve, and the summer’s a good opportunity to do that again and bring players who can improve us.”

The fact that Mousinho is already looking ahead and planning for the summer transfer window is a positive sign that he intends to stick around at Fratton Park for the long term to see the job through and help the side grow even further.
