Portsmouth ‘line up Mousinho replacement already’ at Championship rivals

Portsmouth are seemingly already lining up replacements for John Mousinho after he sensationally kept the club afloat in the Championship this season.

Mousinho has become a popular figure at Fratton Park among the supporters for the work he’s been able to do during his tenure so far.

Portsmouth have successfully avoided relegation this season, which was the target heading into the campaign, with the Blues now able to focus on progressing up the table moving forward.

Mousinho was working miracles throughout the season due to Pompey having the smallest budget in the entire division, but his qualities as a manager have shone through.

However, it isn’t just Portsmouth fans who have been impressed with Mousinho’s work this season, as there is a growing concern that he could be snapped up by a club with a bigger budget and aspirations at the top of the table.

Portsmouth have identified Mousinho’s replacement

There might be little that Portsmouth can do to retain Mousinho if another team makes a swoop for him in the near future, and while the ownership doesn’t want to get rid of him, they might end up managerless anyway.

That is why Pompey are future-proofing themselves by identifying a potential replacement for Mousinho if he does end up departing Fratton Park.

According to Wales Online (25 April), the Blues are among the clubs who have kept tabs on Swansea City manager Alan Sheehan.

He initially replaced Luke Williams on an interim basis back in February as the Welsh outfit were struggling dramatically, and he has worked wonders with the Swans.

The 38-year-old is now being monitored by other clubs including Portsmouth, even though it’s believed the South Coast side have no plans to replace Mousinho.

Portsmouth fans want Mousinho to be backed

Mousinho has showcased that his coaching alone is capable of taking Portsmouth to a good place, but working on the budget he has isn’t an easy situation.

That is why Pompey fans are pushing for Eric Eisner to financially back him during the summer transfer window so that Mousinho has a stronger squad to work with.

Adding some additional quality might be enough to convince Mousinho to stay for the long term as well, which would be a huge boost for Pompey.
