‘Lang must start v Sheffield Wednesday’ as Portsmouth transfer decision looms

Callum Lang can be confident of a starting role for Portsmouth against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Pompey have all but secured safety in the Championship after securing a 1-0 win against Watford last time out.

Now John Mousinho is preparing his side to travel to Hillsborough to face the Owls on 26 April with a view to maintaining a positive run of form.

With that being said, the summer transfer window is already coming into view, and that could alter the starting decision surrounding Lang.

The 26-year-old started the campaign in magnificent fashion but was unable to continue thanks to a lengthy injury concern.

His opening day double against Leeds United was added to by a further eight Championship goals and two assists, making him one of the best players for output in PO4.

As a result, the Englishman has been a massive miss and having him back will certainly represent a huge boost.

After not making an appearance since mid-February, Lang returned for just three minutes as three points were secured against the Hornets.

Now the attacking midfielder will be looking ahead to a clash against Sheffield Wednesday with the hope of featuring much more.

This could be entirely possible with Mousinho potentially looking to phase out Adil Aouchiche before his return to Sunderland.

Although the 22-year-old has had a positive spell at Fratton Park, he will move back to the Stadium of Light regardless of the feeling around him on the south coast.

This could prove to be the perfect opportunity for Lang to return to the side and shine with just two second-tier games remaining.

Mousinho has Aouchiche decison to make at Portsmouth

There is no doubt that the Sunderland loanee has made a positive impact since making his January move down south.

That may go against the PO4 club as the Frenchman may see his future at a club fighting for a place in the Premier League.

With that in mind, attacking players like Matt Ritchie and Jacob Murphy have to look to step up and fill that void.

It will be interesting to see if Mousinho is afforded the opportunity to sign new forwards in the summer and what that means for Lang and his minutes in blue.
