Portsmouth player exits Fratton Park today as announcement made
Portsmouth had a player leave the club just minutes before their Championship clash with Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
Pompey played a 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough in their penultimate game of the season on 26 April, with Harvey Blair netting his first goal for John Mousinho’s side.
With that, Portsmouth are now five points clear of the relegation zone and have the chance to finish as high as 13th place when they face Hull City at Fratton Park next Saturday, 3 May.
However, the trip to Sheffield Wednesday appears to have made a Portsmouth transfer go under the radar this weekend.
Portsmouth player leaves Fratton Park under radar
While Portsmouth were busy preparing for the Championship clash with Wednesday, Toby Steward quietly finalised a transfer away from Fratton Park.
The goalkeeper had spent seven days on an emergency loan at Crawley Town before returning to the Hampshire-based club on Thursday, 24 April.
However, the League One club have now re-signed the 20-year-old on another seven-day loan, as they look to avoid relegation.
At least a few fans were surprised after Crawley named Steward in their starting line-up in their must-win game against Northampton Town on Saturday.
They then announced that the shot-stopper has extended his stay with the third-tier club for another week.
Steward started in both of Crawley’s games during his first seven days there and went on to help them beat Northampton 3-0 upon returning.
Steward to see out season at Crawley
Steward helped Crawley remain unbeaten in two of his games for them before returning to Portsmouth, keeping one clean sheet in the process.
The goalkeeper added another clean sheet to his tally as he helped the Red Devils earn a 3-0 victory over Northampton.

He brought his A game to the Broadfield Stadium, making five saves to keep the opponents at bay.
With that, Crawley have clawed their way out of the relegation zone, although they are still hanging by a thread.
They are only above Bristol Rovers on goal difference and need things to go their way in the final gameweek of the season when they face Shrewsbury.
