Wrexham star James McClean reacts to Callum Lang’s message after Portsmouth draw

Portsmouth thought Callum Lang would miss the remainder of the season when he suffered a hamstring injury in February.

However, the 26-year-old has made a substitute appearance for John Mousinho’s men in each of their last two Championship outings.

Despite being absent from 15 February until 21 April, Lang has played a key role in helping Portsmouth achieve second-tier survival.

The forward has notched 10 goals and two assists in 31 Championship outings, while his last goal came in a 3-1 win over Stoke on 22 January.

Wrexham’s James McClean responds as Lang delivers message after Portsmouth draw

Lang featured for 19 minutes of Portsmouth’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday.

The 26-year-old wrote on Instagram: “Last away day of the season. It’s good to be back!”

Wrexham’s James McClean, who won promotion to the Championship with the Red Dragons on Saturday, gave Lang’s post a like.

Portsmouth will look to end the season on a high

The Fratton Park club began the season with aspirations of merely surviving in the Championship after winning the League One title last term.

Portsmouth are in good form

Mousinho’s men achieved that goal thanks to back-to-back wins over Norwich and Watford over Easter weekend, and Pompey are now four games unbeaten.

But while Portsmouth have already secured their Championship status, they will be keen to put on one last show for the Fratton Park faithful on the final day of the season.

The Blues host Hull on 3 May, which could prove to be a tough test as the Tigers need to win to stand a chance of avoiding relegation back to League One.

However, Mousinho’s men should be eager to achieve what would be their third win in four games, as they look to establish a solid platform to build on ahead of next season.

Previously injured Lang will be particularly keen to get himself on the scoresheet after recently returning from the sidelines.
