‘Portsmouth could greenlight Wallace move’ amid ‘unacceptable’ West Brom verdict

Portsmouth could be set to reunite with Jed Wallace as pressure continues to build at West Brom.

Pompey will have one eye on the summer transfer market as they await their final Championship game of the season with survival already sealed.

John Mousinho has done an excellent job with the squad available to him, but improvements will still be required in the summer to maintain form.

This could see a swoop be executed for Wallace, especially after comments were made about the Baggies after their recent struggles.

Wallace fumes at West Brom playoff flop

The Black Country outfit looked destined for a top-six finish under Carlos Corberan but that trend didn’t continue under Tony Mowbray.

Now the Albion sit 10th in the second tier and the former Sunderland boss has been sacked with things falling at the seams for The Hawthorns side.

As a result, a summer of change feels highly likely with Marti Cifuentes being eyed as a potential new head coach ahead of the new season.

Whoever the new head coach is going to be, it feels unlikely that they will be happy with Wallace calling out his own teammates to BBC Radio WM, shared via BBC Sport (28 April).

He said: “At times like this, you have to look at yourself – as a group of players, you have to look at yourself and say how many of us have had a good season? I know I certainly haven’t.

“It’s disappointing, looking at the table in disbelief. The amount of chances we’ve missed, the amount of late goals and individual errors is the tale of the season – it’s not acceptable for a club this size.”

This could prompt a departure from West Brom in the summer, but could be the perfect storm to allow Mousinho to step in and sign the attacking midfielder.

Portsmouth can now reunite with Wallace

It has been far from a dream season for the 31-year-old as he has generally struggled for regular minutes in the Midlands, regardless of head coach.

This may be seen as a red flag by supporters at Fratton Park but there is still so much for the Englishman to offer in the Championship.

Wallace’s experience could prove to be invaluable alongside the likes of Matt Ritchie and Marlon Pack as survival is eyed once again.

There is no doubt that Mousinho has the ability to get the best out of the Baggies man, showcased by his management of Josh Murphy this campaign.

It will certainly be interesting to see if Pompey would want to reunite with the man who departed in 2015, but it appears to be a no-brainer as it stands.
