Agbonlahor gasps at Portsmouth claim made live on talkSPORT

Gabby Agbonlahor was left surprised at a comparison between Portsmouth and Arsenal.

The Gunners were in action on Tuesday (29 April) in their biggest game of the season as they hosted PSG in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals.

Mikel Arteta’s men were ultimately beaten 1-0 courtesy of a fourth-minute goal from Ousmane Dembele, which rocked Arsenal and silenced the crowd.

Arteta had been calling for Arsenal fans to provide the biggest atmosphere possible on the night, but they struggled to get into the game after the early shock.

Portsmouth provide a better atmosphere than Arsenal

The Gunners have been left with a lot of work to do in the second leg in France if they want to reach the final, and the away support will likely have a big role to play.

Alex Crook was in attendance at Emirates Stadium for the game against PSG, and when appearing on talkSPORT he was pressed about the atmosphere in comparison to Portsmouth’s Fratton Park, which he regularly visits.

He said: “The loudest atmosphere that I’ve ever experienced was when Pompey played AC Milan in the Europa League all those years ago, and the Emirates was nowhere near on a par with that last night.

“It was great pre-match, but I’ve actually just texted an Arsenal fan friend of mine and said after five minutes it was like the ‘Highbury Library’ all over again.”

Crooks went on to add: “Yes, Fratton Park would be louder,” in a statement that made Agbonlahor gasp.

Portsmouth will look to end the season on a high

Pompey fans will have the opportunity to prove Crook’s claims true on Saturday (3 May) in the final game of the season.

John Mousinho’s men will host Hull City at Fratton Park as they look to wrap up the season in style, despite the fact that they have already secured their safety in the league.

However, their opponents are still fighting against the threat of relegation, which puts a lot of pressure on this game as the Tigers will be pushing to take all three points, although just one might be enough.

Portsmouth have been putting together a strong run of form to end the campaign, with a four-match streak without a loss, and the Blues could still progress up the table.
