Mousinho has major Portsmouth issue to plug – three things learned v Hull City
Portsmouth played out a 1-1 draw with Hull City at Fratton Park on the final day of the Championship campaign.
Pompey’s draw with the Tigers means that John Mousinho’s men have finished 16th in the second tier, having won 54 points this term.
Meanwhile, Ruben Selles’ men successfully staved off the threat of relegation on the final day, as Luton Town were beaten 5-3 by West Brom at The Hawthorns.
Pompey News outlines the three main talking points from the Fratton Park side’s 1-1 draw with fellow Championship survivors Hull.

Mousinho must solve Portsmouth’s defending at set-pieces
Throughout the season, Portsmouth have struggled to defend set-piece situations, which came back to bite them once as they drew with Hull on Saturday.
Gustavo Puerta’s long throw-ins for the Tigers caused the Pompey backline plenty of issues on the final day, before Matt Crooks put Selles’ side 1-0 up after finding himself unmarked at a corner.
Opponent | Result |
Watford (H) | 1-0 W |
Sheffield Wednesday (A) | 1-1 D |
Hull (H) | 1-1 D |
Mousinho will need to utilise pre-season to solve this issue for the Fratton Park club ahead of next campaign.
Marlon Pack still has a lot to offer in midfield
Portsmouth veteran Marlon Pack has proven himself as a solid defender in the Championship this season, having previously operated as a midfielder for the majority of his career.
However, as Pompey drew 1-1 with Hull on Saturday, the 34-year-old showed that he can still perform effectively in the middle of the park.
Pack put in a solid midfield display against the Tigers and deservedly created an assist when he set up Christian Saydee’s equaliser.

Saydee could be a huge player for Portsmouth next season
Forward Christian Saydee has not enjoyed much game time this term, making just 10 starts in the Championship.
However, after replacing Callum Lang at half-time, Saydee was Pompey’s best player against Hull and took his equalising goal very well.
The 22-year-old has shown that, if he is given more game time by Mousinho next season, he could be a big player at Fratton Park next term.
