Hull City issue statement after what player did hours after Portsmouth game

Portsmouth saw out their final Championship game of the season on Saturday as they drew 1-1 with Hull City.

For John Mousinho’s side, the match meant very little as Pompey had already secured survival during the Easter weekend.

However, the point meant that Hull City stayed in the Championship at the expense of Luton Town, who have now suffered back-to-back relegations.

While the game at Fratton Park may not have been eye-catching, the aftermath has been a cause for concern after some of Hull’s players were caught in a street brawl.

Hull captain Lewis Coyle appears in street brawl

Despite Hull’s survival in the Championship, which allowed many of their fans to celebrate, there were different scenes after the match for some of the players.

A video has recently circulated the internet showing Tigers captain Lewis Coyle and his fellow teammate and brother Rocco being involved in a street brawl, coming hours after the game at Fratton Park.

Taking place in Hull city centre, Lewis Coyle had to be led away by his brother, with seemingly a dozen people involved in the spat.

It is currently unknown why this occurred, but the East Yorkshire club have now released a statement about the incident.

It says: “Hull City is aware of a video currently circulating on social media and has launched an investigation into the matter.

“The club will refrain from making further comment until the investigation has been concluded.”

Hull’s collapse could benefit Portsmouth

It is clear that Hull are going through a tough time. The club was on the brink of relegation despite being in the playoff race last season.

Now, with their captain seemingly involved in fights in the street, it is not a good look for the Tigers.

However, Portsmouth could use this to their advantage. There are few Championship sides with a more community feel than Pompey.

It is clear what direction Mousinho is taking the South Coast side, and they could end up in the top half next season.

Therefore, Portsmouth could try and persuade some of Hull’s players to join Fratton Park this summer.

Someone such as Sean McLoughlin would be a fantastic buy and would add more experience to Pompey’s squad.

While it is unknown if Hull will stabilise over the summer, Portsmouth should still look to take advantage.
