Portsmouth ‘have Freddie Potts replacement lined up’ at Leeds United

Freddie Potts has been a class act for Portsmouth this season on loan from Premier League outfit West Ham United.

The 21-year-old has proven his ability in the Championship, putting in several high quality performances from midfield.

Potts notched one goal and four assists in 37 second-tier outings for Portsmouth and will look to fight for a spot in West Ham’s starting lineup next term.

Meanwhile, the Fratton Park club may have to work hard to acquire a suitable replacement for the Hammers man this summer.

Leeds midfielder Darko Gyabi has shone on loan with Plymouth

While Portsmouth’s Dockyard Derby rivals Plymouth, have suffered relegation from the Championship to League One, Darko Gyabi was a consistent performer for the Devon side this term.

The man on loan from Leeds was a shining light for an otherwise poor Argyle outfit who suffered 22 second-tier defeats and finished 23rd.

Meanwhile, his parent club Leeds won the Championship title thanks to their final-day victory at Plymouth.

Portsmouth could sign Gyabi from Leeds as a Potts replacement

Potts has been Pompey’s midfield metronome throughout the Championship campaign, and Gyabi has played a similar role for Plymouth throughout the campaign.

Gyabi has been one of Plymouth’s best players

The Leeds man has proven his tenacity while on loan with the Devon side this term, operating effectively for a side who have rarely been able to dominate possession.

Gyabi had a strong football education, rising through the youth academy ranks at Manchester City before moving on to Leeds in the summer of 2022.

Meanwhile, thanks to their promotion to the Premier League, the West Yorkshire side will be looking to bolster their ranks in the upcoming transfer window.

But to do that, Daniel Farke’s men will have to let go of some of their current talent, while Gyabi presents himself as an obvious candidate for the exit door, having spent the season on loan with Plymouth.

Such an eventuality, coupled with the Pilgrims’ relegation to League One, could open the door for Portsmouth to sign an ideal Potts replacement.
