John Mousinho exit ‘danger’ as Andrew Moon drops ‘brilliant offer’ at Portsmouth

Andrew Moon has shared a major update regarding John Mousinho’s future as the Portsmouth manager ahead of next season.

Mousinho has been a brilliant appointment for Portsmouth, as he has managed to keep them in the Championship despite having one of the smallest budgets in the league.

He already established himself as a fan favourite after leading Pompey to promotion in League One last season, despite it being his first full season as a manager.

However, the downside to the 39-year-old’s rapid rise is that other clubs are guaranteed to have taken note of his tactical acumen.

Therefore, Portsmouth could be forced to let Mousinho go if they receive a significant offer, especially considering their own status as a Championship club.

Moon has, thus, admitted that he would not be stunned if the London-born tactician was not at Fratton Park next season.

The BBC journalist explained that there is always a possibility that Mousinho is the subject of a ‘brilliant offer’ to leave the Hampshire-based club.

However, that is not to say that the manager is certain to leave his role as the Portsmouth manager before the start of next season.

“I’d bet yes if I had to, but, as I’ve said, there is still always that danger that a brilliant offer comes in at some point”, Moon said on the Who Needs Mourinho? podcast (7 May).

“So, I still think yes, but I wouldn’t be stunned if the answer was no.”

Mousinho to leave Fratton Park soon

There are no signs that Mousinho could be on his way out of Portsmouth in the immediate future, but the truth is that Pompey would struggle to retain his services beyond next season.

It would be a surprise if another Championship club poached him before the start of the season or a few months into the campaign.

Some teams will already be on the lookout for a new manager ahead of the summer.

West Brom are on the hunt for a new boss after sacking Tony Mowbray, while Sheffield Wednesday are set to lose Danny Rohl.

Considering Mousinho’s reputation, it is probable that he is under consideration at those two clubs in some capacity.

Therefore, it is important that the Eisners are already preparing for life without the former Brentford player.
