Portsmouth news round-up: £10m windfall on cards, new defender on radar
Portsmouth ended the season on a strong note and are planning for another year in the Championship.
John Mousinho has been heralded for the terrific job he’s done thus far at Fratton Park, helping Pompey punch above their weight.
They finished the season in 16th place, with 54 points under their belt.

Jack Taylor on the radar at Fratton Park
According to EFL Analysis, Pompey are targeting Sutton United’s 20-year-old defender Jack Taylor, who has also caught the attention of Championship clubs Bristol City and Millwall, as well as Premier League sides Tottenham, West Ham and Brentford.
Taylor, despite being a defender, is seen as a potential star who could rise rapidly through the leagues, similar to Jamie Vardy’s journey from non-league to the Premier League.
The interest in the 20-year-old comes as Portsmouth, who ended the season strongly, aim to bolster their squad.

Mousinho admits fault for Abdoulaye Kamara’s start at Portsmouth
Mousinho has taken responsibility for the underwhelming performance of summer signing Abdoulaye Kamara, who has only made five Championship appearances since joining from Borussia Dortmund.
Despite successful signings like Josh Murphy, Freddie Potts and Matt Ritchie on a limited budget, Kamara’s playing style has not aligned with the team’s current tactics, which the Pompey boss admits was a misjudgment on his part.
Mousinho hopes Kamara can adapt and thrive next season with a full pre-season and adjustments to the team’s playing style.
“He has to come back in pre-season in really good shape, have a full pre-season with us, take on board all the information we are giving him,” he told The News.
“Hopefully, the playing style will suit him a bit more next year as well. I have always taken on board that we brought him in as a certain type of player, which very, very quickly didn’t become obsolete by any means, but almost didn’t suit the way we were playing – and that was on me.”

Pompey set for new announcement
Portsmouth are finalising their retained list, with an announcement expected soon, as they complete necessary paperwork, according to journalist Neil Allen.
The list will clarify the futures of players with expiring contracts, including Ben Killip, Alexander Milosevic, Zak Swanson, Cohen Bramall, Kusini Yengi, and Andre Dozzell.
This delay is standard, as few Championship clubs have released their retained lists yet and fans are reassured there’s no cause for concern.
Portsmouth poised for financial boost up to £10m
Portsmouth are poised for a financial boost in the upcoming Championship season, with an expected revenue increase of £7-10 million, largely due to a new EFL TV deal.
Finance expert Dan Plumley highlights that this uplift, combined with enhanced commercial contracts and the appeal of high-profile matches, will bolster the club’s financial position.
Michael Eisner is exploring additional revenue streams, including a potential behind-the-scenes documentary at Fratton Park.
This financial stability sets Pompey up for a promising future with improved planning and projections.
Plumley told Portsmouth News: “It’s brilliant financially for the club. We said this on promotion, didn’t we, the average ballpark in your uplift in revenue from League One to Championship is in between £7-10million.
“Most of that is TV money, we’re into the first year of a new EFL TV deal, so that kind of factors into that on a bit of an uplift. Few ability to generate bigger commercial contract links into that, but it’s the same again then.
“It’s not just £7-10m in one hit, it’s the guaranteed TV money in the region of your £7-10m again and then whatever you can squeeze out of other things.
“And as you say, the prestige then of the other fixtures as well and leveraging some of those bigger games.
“It’s going to be same again for Portsmouth this year in the coming season in terms of that revenue uplift again that they wouldn’t have had in League One and, all ends up just I’d imagine a very good season internally that they’re thinking about for the way they’re reviewing it, it’s really good financially as well and it sets them up for a good future, plans and projections and stuff like that.”
