League One title hero axed by Portsmouth in ruthless exit update
Portsmouth have started planning for next season after surviving relegation in the Championship this time.
Pompey feared they might drop straight back to League One after they went their first nine Championship games without a win.
However, John Mousinho eventually steered Portsmouth away from danger, thus finishing the season six places above the relegation zone.
The Fratton Park outfit are now hopeful of progressing further in the Championship next season, with some ruthless squad decisions made already.

Portsmouth confirm Kusini Yengi exit
Portsmouth announced their retained list for the summer of 2025 on Tuesday (13 May), confirming the exits of five first-team players.
Among the players heading towards the exit door at Fratton Park at the expiry of their contracts is Kusini Yengi.
The 26-year-old struggled with fitness issues this season and was therefore restricted to just 534 minutes of action.
However, there was an expectation in some quarters that Pompey might extend his contract beyond this season.
That, though, has proven to be wrong, with Pompey confirming that he will leave the club when his contract runs out next month.
Matches | Goals | Assists |
45 | 13 | 2 |
This is despite the striker playing a key role in their League One title-winning run last season, when he bagged nine goals in 26 games.
Mousinho acknowledged the same in his parting message, tipping his hat to the Australian for playing a ‘massive part’ in Portsmouth’s promotion-winning run.
Apart from Yengi, Cohen Bramall, Tom Lowery, Alexander Milosevic and Anthony Scully are confirmed to be leaving the Hampshire-based club.
Zak Swanson handed contract extension at Fratton Park
Meanwhile, Portsmouth have confirmed that they have offered a new contract to Ben Killip.
Mousinho’s side have also taken up options to extend the contracts of Zak Swanson and Andre Dozzell.
On the other hand, six other players have departed Fratton Park at the end of their loan deals.
Freddie Potts has returned to West Ham United at the expiry of his temporary contract, while the same is true for Kaide Gordon.
