Portsmouth favourite holds talks to become next Norwich City manager

Portsmouth could be set to come up against a fan favourite next season as manager talks kick off at Norwich City.

Pompey are set for another season in the Championship after avoiding relegation with ease in their first year back in the second tier.

This saw John Mousinho pick up a wide range of plaudits for his work at Fratton Park, and as a result, the hierarchy will be keen to keep hold of him.

If the 39-year-old is to remain in PO4 next season, he could be set to come up against a Portsmouth favourite in the dugout of Norwich.

Norwich City in search for new manager

As positive as the season was on the south coast, the same can’t be said for the Canaries after a lacklustre few months in Norfolk.

This saw the Carrow Road club finish 13th in the Championship and ultimately part ways with Johannes Hoff Thorup in April.

Championship final table

The Danish head coach was replaced by Jack Wilshere as interim boss, but the ex-Arsenal man won’t be taking over on a permanent basis this summer.

This has seen The Telegraph report (16 May) that former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders is set for an interview with Norwich in the near future.

The 42-year-old has emerged as a target alongside Pompey fan favourite Gary O’Neil, who has already been interviewed ahead of a potential move to NR1.

If a deal for the former Wolves boss was to go through, the ex-midfielder would be preparing to line up against Mousinho and his old side, Portsmouth.

Portsmouth hero O’Neil emerges as Norwich target

There is plenty to look forward to for the PO4 faithful ahead of a second season back in the Championship, with the hope of building on this year.

This will hopefully see the likes of Nico Schmid, Colby Bishop, and Josh Murphy perform to their best level once again.

Along with some clever recruitment to replace someone like Freddie Potts, there is no reason why success won’t be on the menu at Fratton Park.

With that being said, the general quality of the league could be set to improve, especially if managers like O’Neil are coming in at a mid-table level.

The Englishman did an excellent job with both Bournemouth and Wolves, and would certainly represent a coup for Norwich in the summer.
