Ashley Young could seal Matt Ritchie-like transfer to Portsmouth after new announcement

Portsmouth could potentially pull off a Matt Ritchie-esque transfer soon with Ashley Young at Fratton Park.

The Scotland international joined the Hampshire outfit as a free agent last summer after leaving Newcastle United.

Ritchie was pivotal in Pompey’s prospects of surviving immediate relegation to League One, and they now have to prepare for the next season.

John Mousinho will want reinforcements at Fratton Park in the upcoming transfer window, and they could possibly be presented with signing someone who’s got Premier League pedigree.

Portsmouth to pursue Young transfer after Everton exit, Wrexham a possible destination

Everton have announced that Young will leave once his contract expires at the end of the season, allowing Pompey to pursue his services.

The Daily Mail reports (17 May) that Wrexham have been mentioned as a possible destination for the 39-year-old.

With the Welsh side only recently winning promotion to the Championship, one could argue that the Hampshire outfit may also have a chance of signing the English defender.

Mousinho’s team could potentially step in ahead of the Red Dragons to secure the right-back’s services on a free transfer.

Mousinho to be delighted with Young transfer at Fratton Park

Mousinho did exceptionally well to avoid Championship relegation this season, and the Hampshire outfit now have the duty to back him.

Michael Eisner should heavily invest at Fratton Park in the upcoming transfer window, helping the English manager climb further up the table.

The 39-year-old head coach has shown there’s no reason why Pompey shouldn’t be ambitious about their prospects in the upcoming campaign.

Portsmouth have a chance to establish themselves in the Championship and hopefully get back into the Premier League in the coming years.

A return to the top-flight will undoubtedly be massive for the Blues, who were relegated from it in 2010.

Young could arguably help Pompey take one step closer to that goal with his immense experience.

Despite turning 40 in July, the Englishman still possesses immense qualities to help the Hampshire outfit compete for a play-offs spot with the right group around him.

It’ll be interesting to see whether the hierarchy at Fratton Park will think about making a move for the veteran right-back.
