Joel Ward reveals plans as ‘sensational Portsmouth transfer ready’

Portsmouth could potentially seal a sensational transfer for Joel Ward after confirming his departure from Crystal Palace.

John Mousinho’s team survived Championship relegation this season, and the Hampshire outfit will undoubtedly look to bolster their squad next summer.

The Blues must strengthen their defence soon, after issues with injuries in the current campaign.

Ward will leave Palace in the coming weeks after being part of the squad that beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley, and the 35-year-old may be the perfect signing for Pompey.

Portsmouth transfer can be sealed as Ward has no plans to retire

The 35-year-old graduated from the Hampshire outfit’s academy and played for a few seasons in the Championship before joining the Eagles.

Speaking on talkSPORT (19 May), Ward said: “The idea is to carry on. I’ve still got the hunger, still got the desire to play and to cross that white line. So until that leaves my body, I don’t plan on giving up any time soon.”

Mousinho must demand Ward transfer at Pompey

Rob Atkinson impressed at Fratton Park after signing on loan from Bristol City in the winter transfer window.

While fans would like to see him return to the Hampshire outfit, it remains to be seen whether the Robins will be willing to sell next summer.

Alexander Milosevic’s exit will leave Mousinho wanting a new centre-back, and Ward feels like the right addition to strengthen the Blues.

Portsmouth must sign players who can take them up the table in the upcoming transfer window.

The Fratton Park faithful won’t want to see their team involved in another relegation battle, and the departing Palace defender’s quality will undoubtedly help the Hampshire outfit.

Ward has mostly played right-back for the Eagles over the years, but he’s also capable of playing central defender.

Conor Shaughnessy has returned from injury, and Hayden Matthews is also expected to be ready for the start of next season, but the Blues should still look to sign someone like the 35-year-old.

The veteran Englishman’s leadership may also prove to be influential at Pompey.
