‘Portsmouth find new Josh Murphy’ as summer update emerges at West Brom

Portsmouth could be forced to find an alternative to Josh Murphy this summer.

The 30-year-old had a stellar debut season with Pompey as he proved to be the star man after signing from Oxford United.

This saw the winger play a key role as John Mousinho’s side avoided the drop from the Championship with time to spare.

The form of Murphy may prove to be a problem for the PO4 outfit this summer if other second-tier clubs come knocking, meaning a replacement option will be necessary.

Portsmouth could find Murphy alternative at West Brom

It would be little surprise if a number of bids came in at Fratton Park for the ex-Norwich City winger throughout the upcoming window.

This comes after the Englishman contributed to 21 goals throughout the season, the most on the south coast as Colby Bishop sits second with 14 goal involvements.

This just sums up how excellent Murphy was, and as a result, a move away could be entirely possible as the summer window looms.

If this deal were to go through, a replacement in a similar mould would have to be sounded out in an attempt to use any incoming funds well.

This could see Mousinho and Co. make a swoop to sign Grady Diangana after his exit from West Brom was confirmed as his contract looks set to come to an end.

The 27-year-old hasn’t had the best few years at The Hawthorns, but could certainly benefit from a change of scenery and a move down south.

With the ability to play on either flank or through the middle as a number 10, the DR Congo international could prove to be a coup for Pompey.

Diangana could be star signing for Portsmouth

It is fair to say that Mousinho has thrived on signing players on cheap or loan deals and getting the best out of them.

It has to be said that Freddie Potts showcased everything that the head coach is about in terms of a loan signing, after moving from West Ham.

Murphy on a free transfer is another excellent example of this, ultimately playing a key role in remaining in the second tier for another season.

This could be utilised as a way to tempt Diangana into a Fratton Park switch in an effort to prove himself after a poor spell with the Baggies.
