Portsmouth compensation revealed amid John Mousinho links – Exclusive

Portsmouth supporters breathed a big sigh of relief as the Championship season ended, with safety secured.

It was a nervy campaign for Pompey, but John Mousinho did well to guide his side to securing a second consecutive season of second-tier football.

The Blues will be eager to build upon the foundations already in place next season, hoping to pull away from being in a relegation fight.

The main aim for now, though, is to keep hold of Mousinho amid links to other clubs who are searching for new managers this summer.

Portsmouth to be protected for Mousinho exit

Although things were bleak at times, Portsmouth stood beside Mousinho throughout the season and that decision clearly paid off.

However, because of the good work he did throughout the season, it’s no surprise that his name has come up several times in relation to other jobs.

The 39-year-old has been strongly linked to the vacant managerial position at West Brom this summer, while also spoken about in relation to Watford, Norwich City and Hull City.

Therefore, in the coming weeks, there is likely to be plenty of anxiety over the future of Mousinho at Fratton Park.

Finance expert Dan Plumley has reassured Pompey supporters that if they are to lose their manager this summer, the South Coast side should be protected when it comes to compensation.

Speaking exclusively to Pompey News, he said: “It depends on the contract ultimately.

You would expect [compensation] to be in there and, again, we’ve seen this, haven’t we, with other managers at the minute? That if there’s a compensation fee there or a release clause, it’s probably already in there and then it’s whatever that figure is and if the club that want the manager are prepared to pay that to enter into the negotiations, so if it’s kind of protected that way, that gives the club so much of a safety net.

If it’s not in there, then that can prove tricky because you’re free then to look at other options and talk to whoever you want and they might not get a fee.

“So, yeah, it does really depend on what’s in the contract, but you would expect that Portsmouth have got that locked down. I’ve not seen the detail, but it’s highly likely nowadays that this compensation clause is in there for most managers.”

Portsmouth need to try and keep hold of Mousinho

It is positive that Portsmouth are likely to be protected when it comes to compensation and release clauses for anyone who is looking to poach their manager this summer.

However, Michael Eisner needs to do all he can to ensure he keeps hold of the current boss at Fratton Park.

Mousinho has built a strong squad at Portsmouth and has already made the decisions about which players are good enough to be part of something going forward.

There is clearly a project underway on the South Coast and, undoubtedly, Mousinho is a key part of that.

If the majority of things can stay the same, with some additions on the pitch, the Blues could look towards a more successful season next term.
