Portsmouth make official Terry Devlin announcement

Terry Devlin’s stock has continued to rise at Portsmouth, with the right-back exposed to increased game time by John Mousinho.

Devlin played almost double the games he did the previous season, making 34 league appearances in the second tier.

As summer approaches, clubs from all around the world have been making player announcements, and Pompey are no different.

The 21-year-old is just the latest Portsmouth player to be the subject of such a statement.

Devlin set for more football this summer

While the Championship close season has been done and dusted for some time, many have more football on the horizon.

Sunderland and Sheffield United will bring the curtain down in the play-off final this Saturday at Wembley Stadium.

After that, the club schedule will take a much-needed break until pre-season resumes later this summer.

However, one player who will be required for competitive action during that time is Devlin, who has been called up to the Northern Ireland squad.

Portsmouth announced the news on their website that the 21-year-old has been called up by manager Michael O’Neill.

Northern Ireland will visit Denmark (7 June) and host Iceland (10 June) in two international friendlies.

The double header will allow O’Neil to run a final assessment on his squad before their World Cup qualifiers in September.

Devlin won his first international caps during March’s friendlies against Switzerland and Spain.

Portsmouth must build with new signings

As Devlin’s focus will turn to Northern Ireland, Pompey’s will turn to the summer transfer market.

The Fratton Park club have done magnificently well to prolong their Championship stay, but investment is essential.

Portsmouth recently announced their retained list, with Kusini Yengi leading the list of departed players.

Elsewhere, Freddie Potts, Isaac Hayden, and Adil Aouchiche have all returned to their respective clubs following their loan deals.

Potts, in particular, will be a huge miss for Mousinho, and he will want to add the same kind of quality for next season.

The Fratton Park club are an appealing prospect and are a team on the up with superb supporter backing.

With players like Devlin progressing well, Pompey must now bolster with real quality.
