Wolves and West Brom aces – Three players Portsmouth can sign for free
Portsmouth’s summer transfer window is a great opportunity for the South Coast club to build on its recent success.
Pompey had a solid return to the Championship after finishing the campaign in 16th.
Now, John Mousinho is tasked with improving on this position, with the top half in sight.
Compared to the other sides in the division, Portsmouth have a modest budget. However, there are plenty of bargains out there.
Therefore, Pompey News has listed three free agents Mousinho must sign this summer to transform the South Coast club into a top-half Championship outfit.

Duncan Watmore – leaving Millwall
Duncan Watmore is set to leave Millwall this summer after a two-and-a-half year stay.
The 31-year-old has been in the second tier for many years and has experience at Sunderland, Middlesbrough as well as the Lions.
Throughout his career, he has developed a great reputation for scoring and has netted five times this campaign.

With Mousinho looking for a winger this summer, there are not many better players available than Watmore.
The 31-year-old is guaranteed to bring you goals, and he has plenty of experience at the top end of the Championship.

John Swift – leaving West Brom
John Swift is another player who is seen as an experienced Championship star.
The midfielder, who was born in Portsmouth, has recently been released by West Brom after featuring prominently throughout their campaign.
A midfielder is no doubt needed at Pompey this summer, with the South Coast club currently only having three first-teamers contracted in this position.
Swift’s local affinity with Portsmouth, combined with his experience, makes it an ideal transfer.
Again, the 29-year-old has usually been in the top half fighting for the play-offs in recent years, and that would be invaluable experience for Mousinho to have in the dressing room.
Craig Dawson – leaving Wolves
The final player on this list is Craig Dawson. The defender is nearing the end of his career after playing in the Premier League for nearly six consecutive seasons.
With his contract up in the summer, it is unlikely that he will stay at the West Midlands club, with the 35-year-old currently unregistered.
Now that Rob Atkinson has left Portsmouth, a new centre-back is needed, and Dawson would be ideal.
The defender’s experience is second to none, and he has even won the Europa Conference League.
While there will be questions about his fitness, there is no reason why he can’t make the drop down into the Championship.
Dawson is exactly the type of player you want in and around the dressing room, and he would likely walk into the starting XI.
