Portsmouth can breathe Mousinho sigh of relief as Norwich make new manager approach

Portsmouth enjoyed a strong campaign as they returned to the Championship, and are already planning ahead for next season.

Pompey finished 16th in the league as they returned to the second division for the first time in over a decade, despite having less spending power than a lot of the teams around them.

Manager John Mousinho has done an outstanding job at Portsmouth, having taken them up from League One and made them competitive in the Championship.

His work has not gone unnoticed, as several clubs are reportedly keeping an eye on Mousinho for a potential move, but there has now been a positive development for Portsmouth.

Norwich move for manager despite Mousinho interest

Norwich City recently dismissed manager Johannes Hoff Thorup after a disappointing season and placed Jack Wilshere in interim charge of the Canaries.

However, they are searching for a new head coach, and were linked with Mousinho in recent weeks as they admire the job he has done at Portsmouth.

Portsmouth can breathe a sigh of relief though, as it now appears that Norwich are targeting different options to replace Thorup.

The Telegraph (25 May) have now reported that Norwich have made an official approach to Bristol City for manager Liam Manning, as their number one target.

If they land Manning, then Portsmouth will no longer have to worry about Norwich potentially luring Mousinho away from Fratton Park.

Portsmouth need to keep Mousinho

Keeping Mousinho at Fratton Park this summer will be a priority for Portsmouth, and they will need to fend off interest from a few teams.

Mousinho will hope to progress even further up the table next season, and to be given more funds to strengthen his squad after securing survival with weeks to spare in the campaign.

Losing their manager would be a major blow for Portsmouth, and would put them in a lot more relegation danger next season, but they may now be more confident that he will stay.

Norwich are not the only interested party in Mousinho, but given their resources, they are one who could have potentially tempted the 39-year-old to move.
