Rangers in talks to hire ex-Portsmouth defender as their new manager
Portsmouth have seen many of their former stars go on to do well in their careers.
Pompey academy graduate Conor Chaplin is currently in the Premier League with Ipswich Town.
On top of this, Christian Burgess is aiming to win the Belgian Pro League with Union SG on Sunday.
After retiring, many stars also take the step into management to continue their careers in the football industry.

Rangers in talks to hire former Portsmouth defender Brian Priske
Many former Portsmouth players have done well as coaches since retiring.
Gary O’Neil has been linked with South Coast rivals Southampton after two spells in the Premier League.
Now Brian Priske is aiming to return to the United Kingdom to take over Scottish side Rangers, according to BBC Sport (24 May).
The former defender was at Pompey between 2005-06, where he became a fan favourite.
Brian Priske’s management career | Time spent | Win percentage | Honours |
Midtjylland | 2019-21 | 58.23 per cent | Danish Superliga x1 |
Royal Antwerp | 2021-22 | 44.90 per cent | |
Sparta Prague | 2022-24 | 65.63 per cent | Czech First League x2, Czech Cup x1 |
Feyenoord | 2024-25 | 51.52 per cent | Johan Cruyff Shield x1 |
Since retiring, he has managed multiple clubs across Europe, winning titles in Denmark and the Czech Republic.
Now, after losing his job at Feyenoord in February, he could be set for a quick return to management.

Priske appointment could set up link between Rangers and Portsmouth
Priske’s appointment could have an unintended positive outcome for Portsmouth.
With the former defender likely to reshape his squad at Rangers, this could see multiple departures.
Many of these stars would be excellent additions at Fratton Park, with Ben Davies and Kieran Dowell two players expected to depart after successful loan spells at Birmingham City.
After Priske’s time at Portsmouth, he may be more inclined to sell players to the South Coast club, which could see a potential link-up take place.
Hopefully, John Mousinho explores this possibility if Priske is appointed as Rangers’ new manager in the coming weeks.
