Portsmouth ‘to seal double Sunderland swoop’ after recent developments

Portsmouth may be looking to shop in Wearside once again as they begin preparations for the next Championship campaign.

Despite players and staff jetting away for holidays, there will still be plenty of planning going on behind the scenes at Fratton Park to get the Blues prepared to go again next season.

After sealing Championship survival with a few games to spare last time out, John Mousinho’s side will be looking to go one step further and compete higher up the table.

Of course, retaining the services of Mousinho will be the key factor behind that, but if that can be done, recruitment at Portsmouth is going to be crucial, and Sunderland could be an excellent place to look.

Sunderland promotion could open transfer door for Portsmouth

Portsmouth, with all things considered, had an excellent first season back in the Championship, but it’s unlikely they will be contempt with replicating that again next time out.

Pompey will be looking to build on their last campaign, and the key to that will be to recruit well in the summer, and Wearside will undoubtedly be a popular place to look for several second-tier sides.

The Black Cats sealed their return to the Premier League in dramatic fashion against Sheffield United, potentially opening the door for a few of their fringe players to leave on loan.

Adil Aouchiche, after his loan spell at Portsmouth, is unlikely to have any future at the Stadium of Light, with question marks over the immediate future of Nectar Triantis.

The Aussie midfielder has made a name for himself in Scotland, and has been linked with Portsmouth as a result of that, and Sunderland may look to get him experienced in English football as opposed to throwing him in the deep end of Premier League football.

If Pompey are to look down that route, they could seal some very sensible signings that would bolster their squad.

Mousinho must be backed this summer

If Portsmouth are to keep progressing, the level of investment will need to increase in each transfer window, starting with the summer.

In order to compete with those at the top, Pompey needs to recruit smartly and ensure that they are strengthening their side in terms of quality and depth.

This summer is going to be a crucial one, and it is imperative that any decisions made are the right ones.
