Jurgen Klopp ‘set for surprise Portsmouth appearance’ after what happened
Portsmouth had a nervy season on both sides of the coin around Fratton Park.
John Mousinho’s men flirted with the relegation zone, but managed to secure another season of Championship football.
Meanwhile, Jay Sadler secured his side’s safety in the Women’s Championship after an impressive end-of-season run.
The key for next season is for both sides to build upon their progress and push further up their respective Championship tables.

Sadler makes Jurgen Klopp admission
It was an incredible end to the season for Sadler’s side, who were dangerously close to being relegated earlier in the campaign.
At the start of March, Pompey Women had just two points, but an inspired run of form in the final period of the season turned everything around.
Not only did the South Coast side finish on 13 points, but also they also finished third from the bottom of the table.
Team | Position | Goal Difference | Points |
Portsmouth | 9 | -32 | 13 |
Blackburn Rovers | 10 | -25 | 12 |
Sheffield United | 11 | -25 | 7 |
As a result, Sadler found himself crowned the Barclays Women’s Championship Manager of the Year by the League Managers Association last week.
The award was voted for by fellow managers, highlighting just how much of an impressive achievement it was for Portsmouth.
Speaking about the event to The News (3 June), Sadler revealed that he met Jurgen Klopp when coming off stage after receiving his award.
He revealed that Klopp then came to find him after, as he said: “When the awards were done, he came and found me and we had a great chat. I’m a massive Liverpool fan, all my greatest times watching Liverpool have been through him.
“He was asking about Portsmouth Women and how we got on, so I explained how we just about stayed in the division. I think he’s a fan now.”

Portsmouth could get a visit from Klopp
Sadler was well deserving of recognition from his fellow managers for the work he pulled off with Pompey this season.
However, he certainly won’t be getting too carried away, knowing that there is plenty of work to be done over the summer.
The impressive run of form in the final part of the season surely proved to the Blues that they do have what it takes, but they can’t afford to find themselves in a similar position next term.
Knowing now what the league brings, Pompey Women should be more prepared, especially with the summer transfer window being an opportunity to bring in new faces.
Once things are underway next term, those in the stands should be looking out for a cameo from Klopp, who could be willing to show his support in person.
